I also had an E-Machine HD failure. Luckily I had most of the photos also on an external drive as well.

Well got rid of all the emachine crap they put on here and it never ran smoother slowly getting back up, I used some heavy forensics software I borrowed from a police officer buddy of mine that pulled everything back now its just sorting time...should take a couple of weeks as no files are named, just numbered:angry: but at least I got it back and some of the data went so far back that I think I have the original newspaper clipping of Noahs great flood...137.5 gigs worth!! and called up Emachine support and sorta gave them a blast of Poop for poor support or lack of knowledge and told them to not give advice they are not qualified to give out example...deleted data on an Emachine is not possible to get back......WRONG !! see ya soon all:-)

With over 30 years of being a computer professional, the last 12 as a database admin I can't stress enough, backup, backup & backup some more.

Now if only I'd taken my own hard earned wisdom I'd wouldn't be out 2 years worth of e-mail and 6 months of Word docs on my work PC...

All my home vitals files, including pics are now on high quality DVDs and stored inside 2 fire resistant safes.

Glad to hear you have recoverd most of your work.

Actually Mike, I was in that process when "BOOM-Boom, Out go the lights" then the pc went str8 to you know where...went and bought a power supply backup today...surge protection etc. and alot of dvd's got the Blacks as they seem to have a high rating for life expectancy and more secure.
