Does anyone have any comments about making the picture taking process faster for the p880 ? should i get a faster sd card ? which brand is recommended ? or is the buffer in this camera "too small" to make a difference ? would it worth the $$$ to purchase the more expensive card ? thanks for the help. The P880 is fairly slow when it comes to card writing. So a faster memory card won't make much difference in the camera. If you have a high-speed card reader and the extra few seconds matter then a high-speed card will be better when transferring images to your computer.

I started with the Sandisk Ultra II SD cards, but my memory card reader tops out at about 6MB/sec so I ended up getting a 2GB 50x A-Data card from newegg.com for $50 instead. They have them for $45 shipped now:

This seems to be about the best bang for the buck as far as SD memory is concerned. Also a good match for the P880 as the card size is close to the battery capacity. As far as brand most cards have a lifetime warranties, but at less than $50 and the prospect of still needing a warranty on your SD memory several years down the road is somewhat silly at the rate memory prices have dropped. Newegg will cover the card for the first year which is when you would see any manufacturing defects that would affect performance.

thanks metapy for the advise... now i wont spend $$ if it's not going to make a difference when taking picutres... all of these terms (buffer, etc) are not familiar to me, so thanks for breaking it down... i'm off to japan tomorrow and that's one less thing i have to worry about. j

I've been using a kingston 2GB 120x high speed. My card reader (built-in to the comp) obviously isn't USB 2.0 because it takes FOREVER to read. I've used it in my palm Treo 650 and it reads very quickly, my camera (P880) would be medium. However, I just downloaded the firmware update for the P880 tonight (if you haven't heard of it yet, DOWNLOAD IT! definate improvements!) and I believe it's responding and storing pics faster, it's certainly going from pic to pic in review mode faster. I only have like 3 pics on the card because I cleared it out, so I'll let ya'll know if it's vastly improved.

I have been using a sandisk Extreme III 1gig. I have not noticed any improvement from using my pny 1 gig in the P880. But the rest of the cams I own there is improvement in using the 2 cards mentioned. I guess it will only write as fast as it can lol
