I was looking at the specs for my camera and I came across these numbers as the Focus Range:

wide - 3.9 in. (10 cm) - infinity
tele - 35.4 in. (90 cm) - infinity
close-up wide - 3.9 - 35.4 in. (10 - 90 cm)
close-up tele - 35.4 in. - 6.6 ft (90 cm - 2.0 m)

Basically... what do they mean? I'm thinking that wide means how far you need to be from the subject while zoomed out, and tele means how far from the subject you need to be when zoomed in... but then... what do those last two mean?

Thanks
-Keilan

The wide is a normal nozoom setting at f2.8, once you start zooming you will lose that "wide" aperature setting and the camera will jump up to f3.2 or higher(tele)
Closeup is when you are in macro mode, usually depicted by a flower icon.
I don'thave the p850 but I've found with most others these figures are a good guideline, but not carved in stone

Alright, thanks, and I think the figures are pretty accurate... because when I"m zoomed in all the way I need to be about 2 feet back to take a good shot.

Like Dan said those last two are Macro mode. Different cameras, even the same model will vary with those distances but they are a good guide line!
