I just bought about 20 minutes ago a refurbished DX6490 as gift for daughter-in-law. She is mostly a pointer and shooter of kids etc. Will this camera be too much or can she use scene modes and Auto if it has them? I am replacing a V530 I gave her. The 530 had no viewer just a LCD. She had no luck seeing the subject in bright light. The price was right so I'm hoping she recieve it with grace. Oh, yeh, she liked the compact size of the 530. Will the size of the 6490 intimadate a pointer and shooter?

Please give me your thoughts. I will appreciate any insight you might have.

Thanks, Ken S.

No intimidation there! The DX6490 is big enough that it won't fit in your pants pocket but it is small enough that my 4' 10" wife has no troubles using it! It is very easy to use in auto and PASM! The scene modes are fewer than some cameras but easy to access! If you or she has questions then please post them here and I or Boily will be glad to answer as we cut our teeth on the DX6490! Love my 6490... I do..I do!! LOL

She is gonna luuuv that Zoom!

To me it is still one of Kodaks best! The photos you can get right out of the box without knowing anything are very good! Let me know how she does with it!

Dawg, Delivered DX6490 today (8-13-02) and got good vibes from Daughter-in-law. She will charge battery and give it a try pronto. Fingers crossed.

Dawg, Got a call from Daughter-in-law, Debi, She is quite satisfied with results of trial run. She liked the 'tight' composition of Zoom lens. She and I agreed that her daughter's soccer game tomorrow could be a goodevent to test several camera functions and settings.
