I have an old Sakar Brand flash which I used with my 35 mm slr.

Would it work with my Dimage 7hi even if only in "manual" mode?

Could it damage the camera, should it not becompatible?

Which film SLR? If it is a Minolta Maxxum, then the flash is compatible. Other flashes can be sued with the 7hi with the PC sync cord, in manual mode. With the PC cord, the maximum voltage is 400 volts, either polarity, so there should never be a problem with camera damage this way.

What he said.

I used a Vivitar 285HV for years with both a Minolta 7i & an A1 (in manual mode) using the PC synch cord (or just the Minolta-to-standard-flash adapter)...never had a single problem.
