How does the tube adapter attach to the camera? The only way I can see, judging by the pics, is that it snaps onto the inside of the outer barrel. If so, how sturdy a connection is this? I want to get one with a UV filter (for protection) and a lens hood ('cause it looks cool.)

The inside of the outer barrel is threaded. The adapter screws in and is very sturdy.

Really? It's threaded? Man, I looked, and I didn't see any. Guess it's 'cause it's black in there. Good to hear that it's sturdy though. I mean, what if I wanted to use one of these?

It might be sturdy but if I used one of those things I think I'd support it with my hand under the add on lens too!;)

See the end of the MESH OVER LENS thread, which has beeen digressing for days now ................. there I answered your original questions regarding how to get the adapter. Now someone has answered that Jessops in the UK do them. Very strange, because I bought my Z2 camera from Jessops 3 weeks ago and they phoned head office who said that the adapters were not available in the UK. So have a look at that thread.

So try them first.
