5mp vs 8mp A1/A2

I've read that the 5mp are less noisy. So besides the overall size is there any other advantage on the 8 MP?
Reviewing some picts samples, it shows to be a better result on the 5 mp's cameras than the 8mp.
I just order an A2, i choose 8mp by the silly rule of "more is better", but i'm in doubt now.
Also i saw some samples of the CanonEOS rebel D, can i reach such a standard with an A2? Off course their chip is huge compared to A2, but a list let me know i'm not going to be disappointed.
Thanks

with the same size censor, sure it will be more noisy with more pixels. A2 is said to be one of the noisest 8mp cameras out there. but since you already ordered it, you might as well enjoy. I would personally want an A1 instead of A2.

You will not be disappointed. Having come from a Fuji F602 (3mp with interpolation to 6), the A2 is stupendous. At 64 ISO, I cannot detect any noise that I am worried about.

I am about to buy a new camera as well, i have the A1 or A2 dilema too. I posted a question on DPReview here were the conclusions:

For the A1:
- Quite cheap now, A2 is expensive nearly the price of EOS300D+EF-S18-50 lens
- 5Mpx seems enough, storing/processing 8Mpx pictures is not easy
- Anti-shake, 28-200 zoom lens, external flash great features are already here
- At the moment, A2 seem to have many production problems: AF gives blurred pictures, excessive battery consumption...
- Faster shutter speed

For the A2:
- 8Mpx allow using digital zooming
- EVF is 4x more detailed than A1
- AF is supposed to be faster
- USB 2.0 instead of 1.1 on A1
- Overall speed (startup, picture to picture, movie mode...) seems better
- Can save picture in 2:3 format
- Can save Raw+Jpeg formats

UK current prices :

A2 : 619
A1 : 459
Digital rebel body : 599

from most reviews I've seen/read the A2 doesnt have an AF problem unless in low light conditions.

The argument between the A1 and A2 is a tough one tho. At low ISO all are good, 8mp = better. Once you raise the ISO mebee the A2 is better, but then the 300D will walk with that prize.

Depends on what you want the camera for I guess. Me It'll be outdoor decent light shots mostly so I dont mind poor ISO200+ for more detail. Still tempted by the 300D but cant be bothered with lenses/weigth etc.

If your not printing out or croping lots then 5mp may be enough?

Thanks for the detailed advices!

I'm especting to have the A2 with me today or tomorrow.
I live in Argentina, and theres no Minolta dealer here, neither service.
I probably the only Argentinian buying a MInolta, camikaze.
The reason i get so worried is beacause i cant take it back to the store if i dont like it, and if something comes wrong it takes over to month to send it back to the Minolta dealer back in the USA, so , this are my odds.
Im sure ill come back for some tips, specially the noise reduce ones, ha, ha.

...crossing my fingers, i hope for it to be what i espect.
