I recently purchased a 2500 minolta flash for my Z3. My problem is that when I use the flash in a darker room the backgroung part of the photo is blacked out . What can I do ? Also I find that sometimes when Im within 12-15 ft of the subject it tends to be washed out with the flash . Can you help me out please>

The exposure selected have too small aperture and/or too fast speed making the non flash exposed scene underexposed. I don't know if selecting other mode will help (fill flash mode may be)

Or, you can try manual mode , with lower F stop, slower speed ( 1/60 not slower since you may have motion blur) , adjust the flash output accordingly.
