I'm looking to move up to another camera with more pixels and more more optical zoom. I have an Olympus C3000 that I've taken a couple thousand pictures on over the last couple years; I really like it but it just doesn't have enough zoom for the wildlife shots I like to take.
I've considered the Nikon CP5700. It sounded good, but lots of bad talk about slow, bad low light response, etc. Bummer, I really liked the thought of 8X zoom. I'm now looking at the Dimage 7i or 7 Hi, (and also at the Sony DSC-F717). I saw somewhere that the 7i (?) has threads for adding on a filter, or maybe a teleconverter lens, for those times when I really want to reach out. I had a 500 mm lens for my old NIkon FE and although I didn't use it all the time there certainly were times when it was the only thing that worked. Can you add a lens like this to a 7i or a 7Hi, and has anyone tried any? I can't find any that are made specifically for these camera. Thanks, northerner :?: |

Yes you can.
The link below discusses this topic. http://webpages.charter.net/bbiggers...on_lenses.html The link below is to Raynox, they are specifically targeting the 7xx. They have existing add-ons available and some that are just being made available. http://www.raynox.co.jp/english/digital/egdimage7hi.htm Based on forum reads, the one that gets mentioned most in my obseravation is the Olympus A-200 converter 1.5X. Try doing a forum search for it on various Minolta forums. I have not spent enough time researching this topic to come to any conclusions yet. |

Thank you for the info. There is lots of info on those pages. I have a 5X tele converter for my Oly, so I'm very familiar with vignetting. It seems like there are a couple of tele lens add-ons that work decently, at least, for the 7i/7Hi.
Now I have to do more research...... Thanks, all. rsrock: You have some nice images! I like the one of the Sousaphones! |

Personally, I'm after a 20mm. I'm leery of fisheyes....I saw Raynox doing a very pricey real fisheye. A nice little 20...anyone know of one of those?

And to report back again---they don't work so well. I returned them. Lots and lots of vingetting.
The good news---one reason I purchased the Dimage7 was because its focal length matched the zoom I usually liked to use. It suits 95% of my needs. I'll live. |
