A friend of mine trying his brand new Z3 has had a great surprise. On shots taken at full zoom (12X) he can see a lot of dark pixels in the photos displayed on the screen of his portable PC. These pixels, the shape of a cross (the plus sign), are situated on a stripe in the upper half-part of the screen, going from the left to the right of the photo, when viewing it at a high zoom (200 % and more). They are of different colors : black, green, marroon, etc. The compression ratio is the lowest. It's not a problem of screen, because this stripe appears on other screens. It's not a problem of firmware (?), the installed one is the latest (1.02e) available, which btw is said to correct a similar problem.

Any idea ? Any explanation ? Any solution ?

Thanking all of you in advance.

The pixels you describe sound like ordinary random noise. Sometimes, a banding problem exists at the same time (and this was not really corrected via the firmware upgrade by some user accounts). The banding may even be related to electromagetic interference (some users report that it appears to be).

Try shooting at a lower ISO speed to reduce it and see if that works (although this will force the camera to use slower shutter speeds in some lighting conditions, too). It may be more prevalent at full zoom, since the lens on the Z3 isn't as bright when using zoom (it stops down to f/4.5).

It must not be too bad if you have to magnify the image to 200% just to see the banding.
