Hi All. Newbie here.
Just bought an A200 after exhaustive research and endless reading of forum here (my previous experience being with a Fuji MX-1200 [1.3MP], an Oly C-3000Z [3MP], and a Canon A80 [4MP] over the last 5 years). I'd like to know if it is okay to use an EN-EL1 (Nikon) battery for use as a spare batteryin my new purchase? If anything went wrong with the camera would its use invalidate my warranty, do you think? Any comments would be most welcome. Regards, Ian |

I can't comment on the warranty issues but I've been using a Maxell EN-EL1 clone with my A200 for a few weeks now with no problem at all.

Like Howard, can't comment on the warranty issue but I've used two different brands of EN-EL1 batteries over the last couple of weeks and they have performed as well as the OEM from Minolta. One was ordered along with a A200 from the Internet and the other was ordered off e-Bay and came from Hong Kong.
Both batteries were offered for use also in the Nikon line of cameras. |

Thank you all for your replies.
I'm definitely going to buy an EN-EL1 now. And they're a lot cheaper than the KMs, especially on eBay. As for warranty issues, I'll take my chances. Regards, Ian. |

I use a non-branded EN-EL1 also. Mine is a tight squeeze but it goes in OK. It's perhaps worth reading the thread on the dpreview forum at:

Altrough using EN-EL1 in A200 seems to not cause any problems, but charging EN-EL1 using A200 supplied changer seems to be the wrong idea. A lot of russian forums report that even original EN-EL1 charged in A200's charger dies soon. It's body deformates, and capacity lost. I think this because EN-EL1 is rated at 650mah, while A200's charger - at 800mah, So it'll be wise idea tu use some other, more compatible charger to charge EN-EL1.
