My Z2 is in need of a new battery. Sony Service repair starts at $181.00. My nearest repair shop starts at $110.00. Can I do this battery change at home?? Or just junk the camera?

Default z2 internal battery

I too hate the pain of resetting date and time every time my batteries go flat, but my camera never did remember from the day I first bought it. I found your thread by searching for a solution to doing my own replacement.

Sony obviously want you to buy a new camera - don't! Either deal with the inconvenience, or do what I am planning to do - unscrew everything very carefully until you find the internal clock battery. This may cause the firnware to crash (plug it into an AC outlet before removing the old battery) but it is most unlikely (if the firmware was dependent on the internal battery it would already be non-functional). Worst case scenario is to bugger up the camera, but it sounds like you are willing to junk it anyway, so what the hell????

If anyone out there has solved this problem before now, please let us know.

I don't have anything definite, but you might start looking here: http://www.network54.com/Forum/151930/

There seem to be quite a few do-it-yourself threads there.
