I recently bought a DiMAGE Z1 and I'm still learning how to use it. My only question so far: I have been experimenting with taking "close-ups" of a small object :?: . I turn the "macro" on and get the "flower" icon on the LCD including an "S" for super macro. My problem, I can't focus properly when my lens is about two inches from the object. It seems to come into focus for a second or two, then gets blurry. When I press the shutter button down half way to focus, a little red box appears and the object does not come into focus. What am I doing wrong? By the way, my dial is tuned to "AUTO."

Macro certyainly does work
http://www.freeuploads.co.uk/uploads/macromould.jpg you could try setting metering to centre weighted or if low on light use the flash with a piece of paper over it Z1 can be picky about focusing - try rotating the subject if you can try setting the mode wheel to 'night' Chris |

Thanks, Chris. I will experiment some more. I suspect maybe the lighting was not good enough to focus properly.

Autofocus sometimes struggles if there is not enough contrast in the subject. Try pre focussing on an edge then recompose.
