What I liked:
1. Sharp picture, a lot of manual control, and a good price. 2. Physical size and weight are OK. What I disliked: 1. Pictures are all at a warm colour temperature and need to be adjusted. 2. Flash is poor and gives the photos a very yellow cast. Very difficult to correct in software. Also noise is visible in the picture when using the flash. 3. Zoom control is located in a poor location. 4. Main control knob gets turned on, from time to time, when placing camera in it's bag. 5. Battery life is very poor. 6. Hard to remove lens cap ??? I will try the Canon Powershot G3 next week. Had a chance to try my new S414 this weekend as well. Took about 130 pics in 2 days.
I have not yet fiddled much with the manual controls. Still, I pretty much agree with Maurice's observations. I was esp. surprised with the battery life, or lack thereof. (lasted for about 100 shots with 1900mAh batteries with no flash) I will give the camera another chance with the new set of batteries and charger (Maha Powerex 2200mAh and its charger) Also need to add that you certainly need a tripod for nightshots. In general though I really like the way the camera handles and feels in my hand. I have a feeling that I will enjoy fiddling with it and get the most out of it soon.... |
