Question about my new 5600HS

I've never used an external flash before. This is the first time with my 7Hi. I spent about an hour tonight reading the owners manual and trying to figure out basic usage of the flash/camera combo with various bounce angles. I must be doing something wrong cause I find the flash isnt very powerful in P, A or S mode (havent tried M mode yet). It can't be the flash, it must be me. What am I doing wrong? Here's an example....please tell me what you think.

Can't get to your link! "access denied"

If anything the 5600HS should be too powerful, and not the other way around... Usually the surrounding should be very dark compared to the main subject, whereas with the built-in you'll get more of the ambient light. Does the rear panel on the flash LCD says 'TTL'?

The pictures will tell, but I can't see them!

NHL, try accessing these pics. They work on "preview". If not I can email directly to you

They look fine to me... You do have a lot of white area that's why the camera compensate for it -> darker picture. Their histograms are quite balanced in fact (I just need to move the right triangle marker in Photoshop slightly or the center one, and they're just fine)

Try a shot with darker background or black, it'll be the otherway and you'll be complaining it's too bright!

i noticed you do have a thing for white. an accessory you might want to look into is a sto-fen bounce diffuser. goes for about $20US

model #Omni-Bounce OM-MZ6.

check out Henrys in Toronto the might have it. if not order it direct.

it is very useful

Personally, I prefer the flexibility of the Lumiquest:

... Especially the 'Promax System' that comes with everything that one would ever need!
