hi Abadon, I've seen few links for fimware which make RAW format for Z2 but unfortunately not for Z3:-\ I'm looking to buy Z3 soon so would be interested as well in firmware which make possible to store images in RAW format.
Firmware which make noise on images a bit less would be cool as well, but I know that it's too good to be true ![]() |

Hi guys, I have decompiled Z2's raw firmware and original Z2's firmware. I don´t know how to see the changes, but if someone can help me we can try to make a better z3's firmware

Hello Abadon! Are you good in assembler? because if not it's better leave this idea, I'm familliar with it a bit but only with one used on i386 and compatibles and ZX Spectrum but not with the assembler used in Minolta's cameras:-
But if you still wish to proceed I guess you need to find what commands are used in processor which are built-in cameras, what machine code corresponds to each command, what registers are used in processor and similar info. It would be good idea try to contact folks who wrote hack for Z2, I think they already possess this data and maybe will provide you with it. PS I believe you can kill your camera playing with firmware very easily. So please consider whenver RAW worth it. |

Z3 firmware seems to be made with pSOS+, available fro MIPS 16, 32 and R500.
I think it would be a little harder to patch as Z2 firmware. There (Z2) are only these differences between orignal and hack, where checksum, and changed text are also listed here. 9 bytes are the important difference!!!! Different between: First file: "firmware.bin" Second file: "FIRMWARE_raw.BIN" Shift: 0 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 00000038 | 35 33 33 35 | 00000038 | 34 36 35 31 | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 00117330 | BE 1C D9 E1 | 00117330 | 04 10 99 E5 | 00117338 | 02 E1 | 00117338 | 01 E3 | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 00117F18 | 80 EB FB | 00117F18 | 4C 21 FC | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 001AB068 | 6E 6F 6D 79 | 001AB068 | 2B 52 41 57 | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ |

No more Infos at the moment.
You can try IDA Pro to disassemble. I've tried it at the moment but I don't no if it's the right processor/assembler which I've selected. :? Perhaps anyone can ask minolta for the processor? :-) |

BTW do you really think that Z3 need Raw? I think it wouldn't improve a lot it's capabilities anyway, maybe you would be able to treat noise more effectively but I also not sure in this. |

I think it would be a step forward.
![]() raw should have 12 bits, I think. This would bring a little better dynamics. You dont have jpeg-fragments. I thinks noise will be more with jpg as with raw. I know, you dont have a lot noise if you use iso 50 or 100. But look at the competitors. some have raw in cheaper models. It yould be nice and innovative from minolta if the would support it as standard. :P perhaps we could something like a poll. If there would be a lot of users e.g. 500 perhaps the will implement it in their next firmeware-update. I think too, that it isnt a lot of work for minolta. yesterday i found some ascii-text in the firmware "a:\\%08d.raw". I'm sure they use the same source for z3 as for their a2. Both psos+, both image stabilized. :P Changing the firmware would be quite hard for us. You need some mips assembler-knowledge. And you have to hope to disassmble the right way. ![]() |
