Default Minolta 7hi evf exposure preview

:?: I was taking photos of my daughter's dance recital with external flash at ISO 200. The very neat feature in the evf that shows the actual exposure (IE dark, contrast etc) proved to be a real problem. As this was low light, and I had to use a high shutter speed, knowing that the external flash (not dedicated) would expose properly, the viewfinder was so dark that I could not compose a photo. Does anyone know how to turn this off, or how to deal with this problem?

When you are in the manual WYSIWYG mode pressing in both the function button (on the left side) simultaneously with the i+ (right side) next to the viewfinder will overide the EVF! (ie it will put the EVF back imto auto brightness mode)

The M will glow red to indicate this feature is turn off indicating that what you see is no longer representative of what the camera will be recording... This is an old trick for taking pictures with the D7's in darkened studio on manual! 8) 8) 8)

In fact, this is not a problem. In manual exposure mode, you have the choice of 2 modes: WYSIWYG ( as you are in now) or automatic monitor amplification.
To switch between the 2 modes, hold the function button (left dial) and press the information display (i+) button . Look in your manual under “manual exposure” ( page 52 in my D7i manual)

Thank you so much! I could not find this in the manual, but it seem to me that I read it somewhere before!
