Default UV and CP filters for the 7i

What are the best filters to use. I just bought the 49mm Tiffen pack from Circuit City for 19.00. I have some (vignette) shadowing around at 28mm to 35mm. How can I stop all this. Do I need to stepup to a 52mm or 58mm?

you bought a good camera now buy some good filters.

all you have to do is keep the ring thickness at or under 4mm if you want to use the original hood. other options available. unfortunately ther will be no round filter stacking in the 49mm range. more than 1 4mm thick one and you have vignette.

i started this thread to get more info from other people and filter setups they're using.

by the way- return those filters to circuit city ASAP. get some good quality multi coated ones. those ones are not. the B+W uv is about $35 no vignette excellent glass. brass ring. your option of course.

a better option for better filters. you can talk to the gentleman. he knows the limits of a lot of items he sells. it's all he sells.

sjms is right.

B&W has a thin line (ie you can't stack them) that'll work for the D7... Their polarizer is kind of pricey, but you won't regret the results!

Are those Kenko Wide and Tele lenses any good? They are a bit cheaper than the A200 Olympus I found on ebay.

i personally do not promote the use of any of these lenses. they, in my opinion, cause undesired effects in the image. this will include pincushion and color bleed. if there are vertical or horizontal straight line in the picture the effect becoms quite apparent. it's a matter of personal taste. unless specifically designed for that particular lens you will get some less than perfect results. again its what you can tolerate. other opinions will differ greatly from mine so read on thru the forums and enjoy photography.

on this lens wide doesn't work well the vignette issue pops up. but you can always crop it out of the shot.

The only ones worth looking at are the discontinued B-300 and the B-28, all from Olympus:
