Default Mavica MVC-FD71 beats D7i Macro

Didn't have much time to 'fiddle with the D7i macro - resorted to trusty Sony MVC-FD71 which zoomed in tight and focused quickly. Got to learn D7i focus modes yet.

Did you use a tripod on the D7? At 200mm setting your handshake is not helping the camera. Try the 28mm wide setting, and you'll have more luck with the AF

Default Macro

Yup, tripod, NHL - tried both macro settings. Distance is very critical. D7i tried to focus but I must have been closer than it's criticsl distance. Not slamming the D7i just takes time learning it. (Had a rush closeup shot down to electronic component level.)

For macro, it's 0.5m or less. If you're further out than 0.5m then leave it at the 200mm setting (ie in non-macro).

You can also try manual focus by pushing the manual AF button and use the focusing ring instead...
