Default D7i power problem?

i've bought a fresh new D7i and here is what happened:

1.took out the sanyo NiMH 1800mAh from the box and recharged them (as the manual said).
2.took out the camera from the box and load batteries.
3.quickly shoot 10 pix indoor, default settings
4.install software, plug usb and start playing windows with the pictures for a couple of minutes or so.
5.camera went off telling batteries are dead.

pretty strange compared to their standard power test
and to my old olympus 2020z.
i've read batteries should go 3 times through the discharge/recharge cycle. is that right or am i doing something obviously wrong?

thanks for any idea!

Default power

I had the same expierience. dont panic, charge / drain the batteries a couple of times and you'll be fine. I get about 100-150 pics on the standard set. Also keep in mind that 'a few minutes' on the PC is propably more then you think, and that the connection uses plenty of power. Test power usage on 1 kind of usage (taking pictures OR connecting) at a time.

my bet is that after 5 or 6 drain/charge cycles the batteries and your 7i will be fine.
