With interchangeable lenses you want the markings to remind you of focal length and f stop. If you donít know what lens you have on your Z1 you are in trouble. I think it is just a carryover from SLR and DSLR that they put the markings on some cameras and not necessary at all. It might be handy on a camera that takes screw in filters to list the filter size so you donít have to look it up when you buy attachments, but again that doesnít apply to a Z1.

Iím curious why you would want markings.

Since Minolta does not put its name on the lense.Could it mean it is OEM ?

Minolta has always made their own lenses. A few years back they were the only ones who made them completely from scratch, starting by making their own glass. That has always been a matter of pride for Minolta and I would be surprised if they were farming their lenses out.

The ones in the G400/500 likely arenít made by Minolta since the camera came from Konica before the merger.

No way the Z1 could have a generic lens since it is designed with the camera. Even if they farmed the lens out they could still put Minolta on it since they certainly designed it. There doesnít seem to be a place to put the lettering Ė I think that looks sleeker than making an area to put lettering on.

speaking of minolta makeing their own stuff, has any one noticed how close the z1 looks likes the old minolta underwater camera, it is in the 7hi manual, but it says nothing about the z1!

On the new Z2 pics , GT in red is clearly printed on the lens barrel.
Of course this leads to me to think what lens is on Z1.

38-380mm (Equiv. 135)
1:2.8-3.5

Minolta's specifications:

Z1:Lens construction:10 elements in 7 groups (includes two elements with three aspheric surfaces) (Unsigned)

Z2:Lens construction:11 elements in 7 groups (includes two elements with three aspheric surfaces) (Signed "GT")

I don't believe there are similar. Minolta promise lower CA too and points out that is a "GT-objective".
They didn't it with Z1.
