I plumped for the X20 - its cheaper at the moment and the specification appeared almost the same as the X21 (perhaps better than the X21 !) The according to the list of specs etc I think the only differences are the inclusion of Pictbridge in the X21 - I am not even sure the x21 has been updated to USB 2.0 ! The cams look identical although the x20 has some interesting flashing lights on the front at startup.....oh and I think the menu controller is one piece as opposed to 3 buttons on the X21. (I prefer 3 buttons - one piece in theory could wear out sooner !). Startup is quicker on the x21 (you wouldn't notice, I suspect ). All in all is it worth the extra money for the X21 ? ....I have doubts but i haven't looked at it to be sure ! I compared the performance of the X20 and Xt - and kept the X20 ! 8)

Hi!
According to the technical spec. there are a LOT of differences between X20 and X21 and all seem to be WORST in the new model...
-1- the SHUTTER SPEED RANGE is 4s to 1/1000 for X20 and is only 4s to 1/500 for X21
-2- ISO MODE is only Auto in X21 (50-200) and in the X20 (auto 64-200) you can set it also manually 64-400
-3- CONTINUOUS SHOTS SPEED 1,2 fps (X21) against 1,5 (X20)
-4- NO AUDIO AT ALL in the X21, video with audio and 15sec audio comment available for every shot in the X20
-5- 3.8cm TFT (X21 and lower resolution: 65000pixel) against 4.0cm TFT (X20 85000 pixel)
-6- NO VIDEO/AUDIO OUTPUT (X21) against PAL/NTSC + AUDIO OUTPUT (X20), NO SPEAKER on the X21 as well...
-7- WEBCAM (PC WINDOWS ONLY) CAPABILITY is missing in the X21
-8- MULTI COLOUR FRONTAL LED FUNCTION INDICATOR is missing in the X21
-9- X20 IS MUCH CHEAPER THAN X21!
So till now 9-0 is the score match between X20 and X21...

What's better (maybe) or different in the X21?
-COLOR MODE X21 has different modes from the X20, better? I think it's not important at all, with Photoshop or other software you can do it always...
-JOYSTICK CONTROL: X21 has 1 botton for all directions and push and the X20 has 3 bottons (left, right, up-down-push), better? it's the same in my opinion
-SPECIAL EFFECTS X21 has different effects as X20, better? As before for color mode, you can do it with external software always

Conclusion: is it the X21 really a new model?!? I really can't believe this! More or less is the same situation if you compare the Dimage Xt with the new Xr... maybe the KONIKA influence has been bad in the MINOLTA hi-tech Labs...

Personally, after having discoverd all these differences I have bought the X20 without any doubt! 8) :P

If anybody else knows something more, please post!

Ciao!

I am very happy with the X20 ! and can well believe that the X21 is less value ! Everyone who has seen the X20 likes it ! A great deal - go get one !

Just ordered an X20 from Adorama. Wanted something small and compact to carry around. Prefer the Pentax Optio S4, but the X20 is selling for $149 US at B&H and Adorama, and even a little cheaper at some other on line retailers. The Optio S4, although 4MP is 2x the price. Although its "only" 2MP, the X20 seems like a bargain at less than $150US.

Something to carry around when I don't need my Digital Rebel.

I've been hunting for an ultr-pocketable camera and ust bought the Pentax S4 myself, but I think the X20 is a hellula deal.

I even saw a few X20's for as low as $120 (refurbished w/ 3 month warranty) on Ebay. The S4 is well priced too - I got mine of $289 plus a $30 mail-in rebate. So I had to go for it

But the X20 to me seems the best deal of that whole series (Xg, Xt, X21, X20, Xi). The sample pics from that X20 on Megapixel.net were surpisingly clear and sharp - more so than the Xg and Xt .

If i hadn't pulled the trigger on the S4 I definitley would have gone for the X20 instead - even though there are many small 3 and 4 MP cameras out there.

Got my X20 from Adorama last week. If any X20 owner has found a small leather case for the X20 - please post. Just want a small and light case to protect the camera when not in use, or when carrying - to protect against dust and dirt. Saw a few on e-bay.
Thanks in advance

Default X20 Case

Minolta has a case available for the X20 on their website. Nice case that fits the camera perfectly.

Totally agree. One more difference the indicator grip on X20, which is better looking than X21. I do expect X30 will come out. Sadly I believe it won't be as the X31 has been announced.

The X31 is already available in Germany, in the US rumor has it that you can buy it there come September. Strange release policy by Minolta ...

Here's a data comparison between the X20, X21 and X31.

I don't think that the small CCD in the X31 will do any good to noise levels, to put it mildly.
