Default Using full time Autofocus with the A2

I seem to have a problem with trying to use full time Autofocus with the A2. I have the menu setting for "Full-Time Autofocus" set to "ON" and I have tried the "Grip Sensor" setting to both "ON and "OFF" but no matter what, the camer will never focus until I press the shutter half down. Maybe I'm reading the manual wrong but is this the way it's suppose to work? If so, the Grip Sensor is meaningless. Maybe there a mutually exclusive menu setting that I don't know about. Can anyone help? THanks.

Hi,

I thought I had this problem when I first got my A2. I thought that the handgrip wasn't working, or that there was a fault with the AF. I was trying it inside the house, late at night. When I tried it during the day it worked fine.

It appears that the fulltime AF won't switch on in low-light conditions, if I take it somewhere bright then as soon as I place my fingers on the handgrip sensors, it starts to focus. Same with the EVF sensors if the A2 is on a tripod.

Hi Charon,

Thanks for the input. I tried the full-time AF in bright outdoor light but unfortunately I still had the same result.

I contacted KM about my A-2 focusing problems and fuzzy out of focus photos. They responded immediately and asked me to send the camera to the New Jersey service center. Isent it in 8 days ago. I'll let you know what they do. Icouldn't do anything to focus properly, --either manual or auto. I expressed my feelings about quality control and disappointment that they would sell so many defective cameras. That's not the Minolta I knew. I wonder what the Konica merger really did to quality control --?
