I have been trying to use the Minolta 7Hi to take infrared pictures using the Ilford SFX gel filter and the more recent Cokin infrared filter. I appear to be getting a hot spot in the centre of each picture. I have tried taking pictures with using manual and auto focus but still the same problem. Can you use the 7Hi for this type of photography?

You can use your camera for NIR, but the hot spot will have to be burned in. I have had very good results using the A2 with the Hoya R72 filter. It would be better if the hot spot wasn't there, but the picture quality is so good (and auto focus works as well) that it's worth the hassle. The hot spot is not a flaw, it is part of the design of the camera.

The following is an example, I retouched the hot spot very quickly.

Has anyone tried this with a Z2? Does it have a hot spot? I did the "remote test," and it worked, so I'm thinking I may want to play around with this one day...

Here's the test on the Z2. Exposure and focus full auto. No hot spot, no retouching. Looks great to me, you be the judge.

Wow. I'm damn impressed. Now I just need to scrounge up $85 for a filter...
