As many have said before, A1 flash is inadequate for macro photography. Considering one of the external units - dilemma is ring vs twin. Understood that the contrast and tonal qualities differ and it depends on the application - I am interested in primarily insects and other small "creepy crawlies".

I welcome comments / suggestions from anyone w/experience with either or both units. Twin flash concern (besides expense) is ergonomics, i.e. cumbersome to set up and use in the field? (picture literal field with mosquitos, snakes, mud, poison ivy, etc.)

Thanks

Before you buy something you might try the home made setup shown at http://www.pbase.com/john_down_under/flash_diffusers. John talks about it at http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1024&message=9433557
