Default Stuck LCD pixel - 7i

Hi all,

Has anyone experienced problems with stuck pixels on the LCD and EVF of a 7i?

My 7i has a stuck pixel which is visible on the EVF and LCD but it does not come through on final images? (I guess the EVF and LCD use a different sensor??)

When in movie mode the stuck pixel appears on every frame.

While not really an issue for final photo's it is pretty annoying when composing a shot.

The LCD and EVF are not related although they share the same output from the same CCD. If you see the dead pixel on both the LCD, the EVF and the movie frames, it must be the CCD then. The camera processing must have maskout the bad pixel during still shots...

Thanks NHL,

Yep.. you were right. I downloaded D7CCD 1.02b ..and it confirms a dead pixel on the CCD at..

R X=1040 Y=548 R: 3965

This pixel definitely wasn't an issue when I got the camera.

Is it common to have a dead pixel on the CCD? The camera is only a few weeks old.. so I was considering sending it back.

Regards,

It's not common, but it does happen. Sometime during manufacturing and sometime on its own, just like flash cells on any flash cards... The internal firmware can mask the problem out if it can.

If the camera is still under warranty I definetely send it back!

cschebel, what is the result?

my D7i has similar problem. but i noticed that the hot pixels only appear on black shot right after the CCD full charged shots(shots are over exposure or white screen). anyone experienced the same problem?

Default CCD Pixel Problems are not uncommon...

it is just that when a camera has the ability to map it out, we are not aware of the problem. I am betting that Minolta won't repair unless the bad pixel actually shows on the image. Canon GL-1 camcorders have been very problematic with stuck pixels and unfortunately Canon did not make provisions for the firmware to map them out. Canon would not repair unless the bad pixel was in the central area of the image.
