Any suggestions on aftermarket flashes that will work on the new z3?

Probably none so far, but here's an answer I got from Metz:

Dear Mr. xxx,
please note, digital cameras of type Z1, Z2 & Z3 were equipped by Minolta with a completely new electronic inside which can not be served by any of our flash units currently. Therefore a 36 AF-3 can not be used on a Z1/2/3. In this case we are planning to launch a new version M5 of our adapter SCA3302 suitable for all Z type cameras of Minolta coming at fall this year.

I just want an adapter that will allow me to use my old style Minolta flash (ISO + 2 prongs, but powerful w/tilt swivel zoom) with a Minolta camera. Right now it will work... but only with a Panasonic (which makes the FZ-20 cheaper than the KM Z3...

The Z3 uses the Minolta's HS5600(D) flash as an option which the Sigma is compatible with as well: http://www.sigma-photo.com/html/news/500dg_super.htm

Thanks. The adapter makes more sense, since I have a perfectly good flash. I gather I would have to set the F stop to match the flash.

I tried my Sigma EF-500 DG-Super with the Z3 when I had it, resultslooked about 1/2 to 1 stopunder exposed, slightly grainy andwith afaint blue cast, using the same Sigma on my 7Hi for the same shots gave better results.

The Z3sown flashtended to be very strong at short (4 feet) distances.

There is an adaptor for that type of mount, PCT-100, I think. It was for a different Minolta camera, which I forget atm. However, it is not supported for the Z1/2/3 though it should work in theory.

style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #000000"I've seen the adaptor and it fits nice and tight, but the camera shop didn't have an old flash to test it.

The PCT100 does not work for the Z series. I tried it at the local shop. The adaptor works for the A1.

Were you using the Z3 in auto when trying out the flash?

I am thinking about buying this flash. I had no informationif this flash would work on the Z3.
