Default Dull color with S404-Please help

I have a Dimage s404 and have been really disappointed in the color quality. My prints (which are done at a local shop with a great machine that produces awesome matte color prints from my ABS film) come out looking faded. Nowhere near the vibrancy I expected.

Any ideas on what I'm doing/not doing? I'm using the auto setting. The only pictures that have bright colors are outdoors with bright sunlight (a rarity here in the Pacific NW).

Help is appreciated!

Are you converting the photos from the 404's colorspace to sRGB colorspace with the DIVU? Maybe your printer is ignoring the color profile of the photos. If this is the case maybe converting will boost your color. (always save files as another name after conversion and preserve your photos straight out of the camera in their original form).

Is sRGB the best color matching format if I'm having prints made?

Depends. For Ofoto, they say the best match to their printers is AdobeRGB. It depends on your printer, and whether or not it can read the icc profile in the shot and can then adjust to it.
