Here we go folks, D7 new firmware upgrade

Thanks Steves !!!

... Now it really leaves me wondering... Why would Minolta takes such a good care of it's customer unless they are coming with some really awsome camera that makes one iresistable that former D7 or D7i owners need to upgrade to ...

I wonder if Minolta'll include a user manual (pdf) with the upgrade CDrom since there are so many sophisticated features added... or let the users discover all by themselves?

Here's another D7i review and it's now upgraded to Highly Recommended!

>The firmware upgrade increases the DiMAGE 7's AF speed by up to 50% depending on the subject and focal length in use<

It's amazing that one can actually increase camera speed just by a firmware upgrade.

1. In looking at all the features, I sure hope it comes with a manual of SOME sort.

I can't wait...

In fact I've noticed it already in the v1.22 upgrade, It's amazing what some creative programmers can do with an algorithm change:

In few instances during studio shoots (ie low light) the AF use to hunt in V1.21, but with V1.22 the EVF goes from blurry and in a blink of an eye the EVF suddenly pops into sudden sharpness. I imagine that instead of spending time updating the EVF like before (people see the AF hunting) they just dedicated that whole time to concentrate on the autofocus then... For a blink of an instant it seems like the EVF froze, but who cares the next frame is sharp as a tack!

I'm really looking forward to the new firmware upgrade as well, especially the real-time histogram since I really like the challenge of shooting in manual (just kidding... it's so easy with the D7 that even a kid can do it). The new grid scale also since I plan to try a few panorama shots in the Carribeans.

I think Minolta has learned some lessons from the PCT-100 fiasco. I'm sure the upgrades will be pirated right and left as was the 122u firmware upgrade with the PCT-100 but they're doing the right thing. I'll be happy to pay for the upgrade for getting a majority of the improvements in the D7i. I've already got plans for the time lapse movie mode.

I think $50 is a steal compare to getting a new camera, beside @ that price point it's not worth it. It's just like how softwares are priced cheap enough so people don't bother to steal.

The PCT-100 is another matter. It's not that relevant since most people find ways to get around this device, but need the v1.22 firmware just for one and only 1 function only: defeat the dreaded darkview finder in manual, but have to buy the whole PCT-100 adapter to get it.

I believe Minolta should have thought about this feature upfront just like the added fractional power reduction for the built-in flash to trigger studio strobes in the new firmware upgrade. It should have been standard and designed into the camera from the beginning! Plus, if it wouldn't have been for Bryan Biggers site no one would have known that Minolta had added this feature to v1.22 either.
