Default Minolta 5600 HS(D) Flash Question

Does the 5600 have an Auto Focus flash assist?? Will be using with the 7Hi.

Really I am still undecided between the 3600 and the 5600. I like the manual setting feature on the 5600 but not sure if that justifies the cost difference. All assistance appreciated, thanks.

it's a tough decision. i had both at my house for about 3 days. the 3600D went back. i prefered the capabilities of the 5600D. plus the ability to use a HV power pack for real quick recycle times like 2.5 to 3 secs in most cases. yep it does make it top heavy. i am in the process of adapting it to an L bracket. i am also debating U/W use with a ewa marine setup. the higher strobe output would help a little. it's all a matter of taste and if you can grin and bear the price difference.

Smjs, what specifically didnt you like about the 3600HS flash? I've heard from others on this forum that it is more than adequate for the D7Hi. I am in the same quandry as Mikedit.

Steve,

So we meet again, I would also like to know what sjms did not like about the 3600. Like Steve, I hope to make a decision by the weekend.

For sjms, any input you could provide would be appreciated, I will be using the flash with a D7Hi. Thanks.

Both the 3600HS-D and the 5600HS-D have AF assist, but the D7's do not enable it (doesn't need to)

Beside a higher Guide Number, the 5600 has a built-in diffuser, and tilt-down for macro shots as well as graphical rear LCD (instead of LED). It also has a modeling light as well as more flexible high-speed multi-strobes. (The higher GN will help in the 2:1 ratio in the wireless mode)

If you don't need all theses features then the 3600HS-D is alright; However wait a month ang get the Sigma which is slotted between the 3600 and 5600 for a more reasonable price:

gee i think NHL covered it pretty well. except for the HV pack use which i do use.

the recycle time is important to me for more rapid shooting. 6-7 secs is a lifetime. with a HV pack i can pop off 7-8 shots. with adequate flash in a short time.

the panel on tha back is a little bit more informative.

How come nobody mentions the Sigma EF-430 Super?, I've been using it on my XTSi and now on the 7Hi, seems to be in between the 3600 & 5600 for specs but has the graphical panel, wireless, strobe etc. I've found it to be an excellent flash.
