Default charlibob - close up lens.

Found all i have is a multiplier - not a closeup lens. What magnification do you suggest for a closeup lens? (Any good sources to buy one?)

Default Muddling thru macros

The wide angle marco is VERY touchy, (if you can find focus.) Find myself moving way back to shoot at zoom macro position. (Seems weird.) Found, though, there are reasonable focus points ouit of macro. Shooting at ASA400 which give me decent shots without having to set up a tripod every time a re-shoot is required.
Fun learning, though. Appreciate the magnified playback feature to prove your focus. Awesome to blow up a FET to 21" screen size to crop it from background.

Also wonder if anyonew knows of plans to build (or where to buy) a simple light box to put small objects in for macro shooting?

Cald,

http://www.pbase.com/kcan/di7_macro

The 2 first pics: no close up lens
The 2 last: with +3 Cokin

It was with a D7 ( tele macro position)
All 4 pics are full frame, I reduce the size without cropping

Cald,
In the same place, I loaded some more pics at to compare.
It's with D7i, normal wide&tele, +3 at Wide & tele

The title identify each pic, all are resized to 1024 wide and compressed a bit more, but they are full frame from camera.

Ruler top scale: each graduation is 1/50th inch (.020")
Ruler bottom scale: each graduation is 1/100th inch (.010")

Default Very sharp, KCan!

Thanks for posting the shots. I'll try to buy one of those myself. A +3 closeup lens threaded to fit the Dimage 7i. Best DOF should be at wide angle macro, right? I shot a 2 Watt RF amplifier module at an angle deliberately to make the leads stand out from the module block. In the space of about 0.25 the closer leads were sharp but those next to them out of focus. Will reshoot today to try and pull it all in. Know any good books on macro photography?

Another dumb question on this site, at work (Win2000) the check mark shows in the 'notify me' box. At home, in Win 98SE doesn't seem to check.

Cald, UR Welcome.
Just thinking: I never tested but the Cokin may not vigneting in case of stacking more than 1 , since they are big diameter , I just have one +3 , so I canít test. ( the holder can take 3 filters)

I canít tell about DOF, but I try to keep a small aperture ( I shoot in A mode in those example) Others may be able to recommend some books.

In the other extreme, I remember long ago ( 2 forum generations back ) some one like to have very shallow DOF with digicam, I recommended using a magnifying glass which works pretty well , and also the blur (distortion) around the center add an artistic touch ( the poster wanted to take a macro of the guitar cords tuning keys )
