Default 7 Hi CF Write Speed?

Can the 7 Hi take advantage of a high speed CF card such as the Lexar 512MB 24x? What's the max write data rate? I'm trying to decide what CF to buy and would like to get one that can support the fastest the camera can handle. And of course by not buying the 24x card I can save a lot of money.

Thanks, Rob

using my ridata 512MB 20x card it averages about 1.33MB/s xfr in raw. being that a raw file is approx 9MB and time from xfr light on to off 12sec.

thats the best info i can give you at this time. you might get a hair faster.

addendum: you can shoot 5 raw images in a row before the buffer fills and has to flush which of course wiil delay yor next shot by at least 12-15 sec.

The speed only matter if you shoot in tiff/raw. At fine (in jpeg), I doubt you can shoot fast enough to see any difference. In raw for example there's a 12s wait between shots with a microdrive or a fast CF card.

In the fine mode the camera buffer the smaller jpeg pictures, and write them to flash @ a slower pace so you can't tell from the speed of a CF card. This is why the D7Hi is faster for raw since the camera has a larger buffer!

Thanks for the information. Someday I plan to learn how to deal with and take advantage of the raw format. I do tend to take a lot of sequence type shots, one of the reasons I bought the 7Hi.

Rob - one week 7Hi owner, very happy so far
