Default Ready to buy 7i, need advice on accessories

I've decided to go with the Dimage 7i and would like advice of accessories.

Will a 49mm circular polarizer block (vignette) any of the image? Show I buy larger filters and use a step up ring?

I'd like 256 compact flash. Any advice on brands?

What about batteries?

Will the supplied charger work well?

Also looking for on-line source to purchase camera and accessories at a great price with good service.

Thanks

Get the B&W thin line, any standard one such as the popular Tiffen will vignette at 28mm.

As for battery I get mine from Walmart. The Rayovac 1hr-charger is the best IMO regardless of what people think about the Maha (which I also have). I like my battery to be real hot (I know they are 'charged'!), and the Rayovac is the fastest charger around. I seldom use more than 2 sets of 1700mAh during an entire day shooting with the microdrive (it holds over 600 fine jpeg shots).

The microdrive is also the fastest, as well the cheapest (per MB), but some people don't like to put all their eggs in 1 basket (I like it so much I actually have two now!). I use theses device for intensive data @ work as well so I've learned to trust theses devices more than most people here that have read too many postings! It's a steal @ $249 IMHO, and carry them back and forth from work, so much so for the fragility myth!!! Costos always carry flash at a good price, and 256MB can be had for under $90 now from most mail-order...

Thanks NHL,

Can you give me a link for the B & W thin line filters.

Is a step up filter ring a bad idea?

Also, I just purchased a 256 Lexar 24X for $144. Should I have buy the cheaper card?

The Iomega (OEM from IBM) 1G microdrive is retailed at Ritz store across the nation for $249. You can get the real McCoy for less on-line of course!

You'll need the x24 speed if you plan on shooting RAW/Tiff otherwise it's a waste of money!

That's also why the microdrive is a bargain if you go for x24 speed cards (it takes about 12s for 1 raw picture with the microdrive!)

Thanks for the microdrive info.
Where did you get the 1hr Rayovac charger? Can I find it at Walmart?

Walmart or Target sell the Rayovac. They are very popular @ Walmart since it's a dollar cheaper there!

The D-Store recently had white boxed 1G IBM microdrives on sale for about $209. That was WITHOUT any adaptors. For the MB/$, you cannot beat the microdrive. I have 3 of them.

The thin BW polarizer is on the pricy side. I use a 52mm with a step ring and have no problems.

Hi folks!
I'm new here, though I've been lurking for a while--- I did see in my travels that etronics.com sells the IBM Microdrive (1gig) for $249. Hope that helps.
I've ordered a 7hi that's due to arrive UPS tomorrow. I've been a 35mm SLR guy for a while, but this baby forced my hand to go digital.
I'll have tons of questions later...I hope I don't drive you guys nuts!

Sorry to interrupt----you may now go back to your topic :P
