I'd like to get a 2 GB card for my A200. I'm interested in anyone's experience with the write times while taking photographs. I don't care about the write speeds to the computer. I'm considering 3 cards: the Sandisk 2GB; the Sandisk Ultra II 2 GB; and the Lexar Pro 80X 2GB. The price differences are about $130, $160, and $180 in that order. Is it worth extra money for the supposely faster write times?

The $180 price for the Lexar Pro 80x is getting close to the regular Sandisk 4 GB for $280. I don't need 4 GB now, but one must look down the road towards another camera in a couple of years and I'm sure it'll need more memory. Of course the memory will be cheaper.

Any comments would be appreciated.

If you are looking for fast writing speed, I say go for the Lexar Pro 80X. I'm using a Sandisk ultra II 1G for my a200, and it usually takes 1-2 sec to write at the highest res.

I have an A2 and for it all the cards you mentioned react similarly. I have a SanDisk Ultra II (512M), Lexar 40x (1GB) and Lexar 80x (2GB).

The Lexar does perform a little better but it is pretty much in the dust. According to some benchmarks I made up the Lexar 40x is faster than the Ultra II even though it is rated at 66x.

However slower cards will stop dead for 20-30 seconds after just a few pictures when you shoot in RAW mode (during the write time).

The faster cards will pause after 4-5 pictures but for only 3-4 seconds. I bought two cheaper cards a PQI (rated at 60x) and a PRETEC (rated at 40x) both do not like RAW mode. Unfortunately I didn't notice this problem since I was shooting JPG at the time so I use the PQI for snapshots. The PRETEC was returned for a Lexar.

Personally the only reason I could see for getting 2GB or greater cards is shooting RAWso I would avoid the non enhanced cards unless youcan try before buy or get a good return policy.

I have a A200 and a 2GB Sandisk Extreme III and I'm very satisfied with the speed which is extremely fast, about 25% faster than the Lexar 80x I would say.

At what point does the A200 become the limiting factor in read/write performance?
