Default Flash Light? or Strobe

Minolta HS3600D. its more or less married to it. there is the HS5600D but you might think twice when you see the price. these work in auto no other strobe on the market does right now. note the funny looking mount (under the removable cap)versus other cameras today. you can get an adapter minolta makes to mount other strobes but then they only work in manual. do not purchase a non "D" version of either of these strobes. the functionality is lost without it

The HS5600D is worth it if one plans to stay in the Minolta family for it's wireless feature. If you buy more than one, you can actually set them at different ratio and work great on location without any sync cords!!! (the bounce kit for the flash is also very compact).

The H3600D is too restrictive in range and control, and also does not have the modeling light feature which is pretty nifty for checking out flash placements...

the RF feature is not available on the D5. if your intention is to move up to the D7i then the extra $$$ is worth it. if your looking for a simple power/range UG for the D5 built in unit i would stick to the HS3600D. its all relative to your needs. the feature rich 5600D at $380 won't do much more (more power/range) then the 3600D at $190 without the D7i.
