Default AE lock indication on the 7i

Hi,

I have setup the 7i spot metering to be AE toggle.
When I press the spot button, I see no indication (on the EVF) that a AE lock has occured ?
In my old canon EOS 630, there was a green * that indicates this.

What am I doing wrong ?

Thanks.

I don't have the camera in front of me, but when the exposure is locked in, the outline of the shutter/aperture is highlighted in black, or vice versa... Look at both the shutter speed and aperture as you hit the AE button, the edge area around the numbers should change color!

Default Spot & AE toggle

When you hit the spot button, you should see autofocus first, if you have it on. If you have it on wide-area focus, you should see the red rectangle briefly, and if on spot focus, you should see the red crosshair. In the lower left hand corner of the screen, you should see the fstop and shutter speed. These will be in black letters outlined in white instead of the usual white letters. But, if you have this turned off, for instance, you have the grid turned on, you will not see any indication of AE lock.

I think bujjai has the button programmed for AE only hence he won't see the AF confirmation first... but you are right about the lettering. ie there's two distinct and separate confirmation: 1-AF lock (red rectangle) and 2-AE lock (inverse video on the numbers).

Thanks for the responses. I see the black lettering with white highlight and a focus lock. I wish they had this in the manual.
