Isn't the circular polarizer slightly thicker (without the front thread)?

there is where i cheated. i have a step up ring and use the CP from my slr which is a 72mm. i'm not dropping another chunk of money just to put a little CP on this thing. looks kind of funky too with the big filter on it. the step up was about $7 and the CP was a lot more when originally purchased. double duty and definately no vignetting.

by the way we lost your avatar.

Ok.....I got the slimline filter. In a burst of buying, I also then went out and got add-on lenses, including a 0.48 wide angle. Hmmm. Now, if I screw them right into the filter, have I defeated the purpose of the slim line and am I likely to get vingetting?

You'll get vignette with a .48 regardless!

May be not at the long, but then that'll defeat your purpose. You don't need an extra filter between the two elements (it also add an extra distance which is not desirable, or is it?). What you'll find is there's a sweet spot somewhere in the zoom range where the .48 will work best...
