E.T. kindly pointed us to the latest release and comparative writing times in an earlier post.

I would just like to update this info following thefirmware upgrade on my A2.

There is an update for the A2 and the A1, links at the bottom.

My write times from activity light on, to activity light off, prior to update and after, were as follows :

Before After

Lexar 1Gb 80x.........1 Raw....14 seconds 1 Raw....8 seconds

Lexar 1Gb 80x .........3 Raw...32 seconds3 Raw....13 seconds

Lexar 512Mb 40x.......1 Raw...17 seconds 1 Raw....8.5 seconds

Lexar 512Mb 40x.......3 Raw...42 seconds3 Raw....15 seconds

As you can see, with my camera and cards at least, there is a significant reduction in write times, especially with the 3 shot high speed mode !!

Interestingly, the 512 Mb 40X gained in performance far better than the 80X, bringing the write times down to a par with the faster card.

I would conclude therefore, that for anyone considering new cards, 40X is probably the fastest they need to buy. Any faster and I think the main advantage would be upload to computer times.

I say probably, becauseother brandcards are known to perform differently. So although you may not achieve results the same as this, you may even improve on these figures, it is well worth updating your firmware. You should definitely see some improvement.

A2- version 1.14e
UK and European owners, go
HERE

A1- version 1.13e
UK and European owners, go
HERE

For U.S. updates go HERE

Please check that you are downloading the correct version for your camera and OS and make sure you follow the installation instructions.

I've seen enough people attempting previous updates without following the guide properly. And it cost them a few sheckles !!

NB. Update also increases data transfer speedwhen thecamera is used to directly upload tocomputer........Not tested !!

Must you install version 1.13e before 1.14e is installed, or does 1.14e include 1.13e?

I don't remember what was previous version when I did upgrade but it should be basically similar to upgrading BIOS of motherboard meaning it doesn't have requirements for earlier version.
Neither I've seen anything like that it in update's "readme".

E.T. is correct.

You don't need to update any versions in between, the most recent should cover it.

I think, if I remember right, the update before this one only enabled the camera to use cards of 4gb and higher.

This latest one is definitely worth doing !!
