Hi everyone.

KK, sorry to hear of your misfortune. A really low act.

I would like to be able to take some medium exposures on very bright

days (common here) , mainly of Road Cycling, Triathlon ect.

Went in to the local cam shop to buy an ND filter and the guy

suggested that a Polarizer might be a better option.

Anyone got any clues on this as I'm getting confused.

Are you trying to eitherlimit the depth of field at high shutter speed or lower the shutter speed for some blurred effect? If so, the ND filters would seem to be the right filter. I'm also assuming that you are not taking about graduated filters to balance highly contrasting areas of the shot.

The Pol filter (which need not be circular for the M410R) would be used to deepen certain tones (e.g. sky) or cut through reflections off reflectivesurfaces. This does not sound like what I think you are after!

Nowt much wrong with this shot you posted!

Thanks for the speedy reply.

Would like to bring the shutter speed down from current 1/350- 1/250 @ f.8

to somewere between 1/60 - 1/180 to get some background blur.

My S3R produced this pic when it decided that 1/45 would be a good idea

and I kind of like the effect.

Hi AJ. The pola filter will reduce your exposure by 3 stops. It will also increase the

blue of the sky and have other benefits like reduced reflectionsand enhanced

colors, its often used by landscape photographers.

It would be my choice by far.

You will have to practice panning to get the kind of picsyou are after, keep the

shutter around 60th to 125th swing in linewith the subject and roll the shutter off

while still swinging.(follow through).

This will get you a speed blurred background and a sharper bike. Have fun, Cheers.

I see what you are trying to do, now.

Seftonearl is right about the POL.... but either filter would work. I'm not sure if the filter factor would be as high as 3 stops for the POL....I'll try my two POL filterslater and let you know the net effect.
