Yeah! Except the bl**dy neighbours have decided that Leylandii to the North and East of my roll-off roof observatory would be the best plant for them to adorn their gardens. This combined with bl**dy-mindedness of my immediate next-door neighbour not to put any form of curtains or blinds onhis bathroom windows (frosted!), despite repeated requests, makes for poor views of the sky, but interesting viewing of their toilet habits! I think I'd rather watch the sky!

I've tried a webcam on the planets and 35mm piggybacked, it's not as easy as it looks!

Hi all,

Need some advice,

The step daughter has got into astronomy at school and would like a telescope, doesn't need to be anything flash but something that would give some good results, and the best bit is the wife's asked me to get one for her!!!!!

So I've got to get a new toy to play with, sorry for the little one to play with, any recommendations as to what to get or what I should be looking for?

I'm going for the SL400r for the wife it is now at £167 inc 128mb fast sd card, keeps dropping everyday, with this in mind wouldn't mind getting adapter ring to fit telescope, for that matter may also get adapter for M410r.

Lots of moon photos to come!!!

I'd head for an easy to use scope, most probably a 150mm to 200mm dobsoninan.

Such as these http://www.skywatchertelescope.net/Dob.html

Work great for astronomy, easy to setup, and not very expensive. The 200mm has enough light gathering ability to spot most of the messier objects :-).

As with cameras the scope is the inexpensive part. Goodeyepieces like Naglers can do a real good job of vacuuming a wallet clean in no time.

If you are just starting out, stay away from the EQ mounts and tripods, they can be a lot of frustration, and are either rickety or very large, heavy and expensive.

Peter.
