KK,

The wife has asked me to sell the Canon Powershot A70 with all the lenses(wide and telephoto)and the CP220 Dye-sub printer. With the money buy a simple point and shoot that she can use.

She likes the SL300/400r!!!! because they are different, and will fold flat to fit in her bag.

I've found these for SL300r £149.99 with 16mb cardand the SL400r £179.00 with 128mb fast SD card.

http://www.hiltonphoto.co.uk/products/kyocera.html

What do you reckon?

I Know I should probably get the SL300r t* but these are still over £300(unless you Know where I can get them cheaper) and the cameras above are a cracking price for what you get and what the wife would need.

May as well sell all the gear don't really need it, upgraded the DYE-SUB to the Hi-Ti now so it's not being used also the shutter lag on the Canon too slow wife alwaysmisses the shot(presses the shutter all the way straight away) and there's too many functions, which just confuse her poor lamb.

Found company on Ebay selling batts for the SL'rs from £5-£10 so thats not bad.

Plus I can then stick with SD cards.

Any thoughts?

Will she miss an optical viewfinder? ........ I wear glasses for reading and have to use them with my SL300RT* ... but not with my M410R.

A friend said the Contax SL300RT*produced noticeably superior shots to the Finecam version ....... could be a hard choice between the Contax and the Kyocera SL400R. Search around ........ could be some Contax's going cheap somewhere.

Cheers, KK

Thanks KK,

She's not bothered may stop her chopping heads/legs off!!!

I can't see it being that bad for the price of £149 with card, It's only 3mp but that will be plenty for 6X4 prints. She will only be using it for everyday snapshots and the like.

I sent Hilton's an E-mail asking them about the SL300RT* the reply is classic:-

Hi,

We do not keep the Contax SL300rt*, though we could supply it. However we would probably advise against doing so as for less money you can have a superior camera with 4 or 5 million pixels - a Zeiss t* lens is good, but it cannot help a 3 million pixel chip against quality 5 million pixel competition.

Regards,
Jamie

What can you say, poor lad. I think he needs to realise that loads of MP's on a small sensor mean more noise! not a good thing. I found this thought it may interest everybody. It's the size difference between DSLR's and compacts it's incredible.

It's a good job we get our facts first before going to one of those "specialist shops" where we should be getting our "facts" from.!
The wife has told me the filter/time piece has arrived!!! Thankyou very much The little one is after it already.

Cheers Ian

I know what you mean, if we're out I can ask for anything and she will have it in her bag!

I hope I get enough for her camera and a battery and SD card .

Don't really know what to ask for it, It will probably go on Ebay though.

I was hoping you would know where I could get a SL300RT* for the right money been looking around, can't really find anything but I don't think the SL300R is bad for the money.

Warehouseexpress have now lowered the price to almost that of Hilton photo. For the SL300/400R but still can't find a cheap SL300RT* all still £300+ must start to come down soon.!

Ian

Edit: can anyone get onto Jessops web site I can't get on but I'm back in trusty travel lodge, 9.6 connection so its all taking along time.

I was just wanting to know if they stocked the contax haven't seen many places that do.

I think the u4r is/should be a SL400RT* I think they just wanted to call it something different.

I'm in no great rush have to sell all the other gear first by then hopefully the SL300R may have come down even more and I will just get that I can't imagine its really bad for the Wife's needs.

Maybe the SL...RT* will have been reduced.

Ian
