You can not help think if there had been a good advertising campaign this may well not be happening.

I think your right, On the link KK posted a guy at KYUK said they were stopping because of "market-led" problems. Which means what?

I think that a good advertising campaign would of been good, but advertising is very expensive.

Who knows what the real reason is, but like KK has posted there will be other big names pulling out of cameras too.

This is sad as it will only leave the big boys and we don't get the choice.

Crikey G your right that Rollei is almost identical the other camera also looks like an Olympus. Very odd. I was under the impression that Rollei were a very good camera maker is this true?, does anybody know?

I found this link to Rollei's web site.

http://www.rollei.de/index_e.html

Looking at the specs the Rollei dk4010 is a rebadged M410R.

So can we expect an upgraded Kyocera/Rollei or should that be Rolleicera:lol:

We will have to see if KK has any news for us when he has spoken to his contact.

Ian

Ian the other camera i thought was an olympus too....

im not sure about the 3rd one? another kyocera or a sony? the screen is too big i think for a kyocera isnt it?

i'd love to know who else is pulling out.

Kyocera new they were to close and so sold the design to Rollei maybe? So maybe they will develope some accesories for the M410R clone!

Not surprised some names are leaving the camera race.....there are far too many models out there and someone has to suffer! It is just a shame the one of the names is Kyocera as they offer models with a difference for peeps that do not want to follow the crowd.

I still think there will be a good choice avaliable and maybe keener pricing as the big names scramble to win the buisness of thenew group of consumers on the market.

I was hoping for a DSLR from Kyocera eventually....well thats not gonna happen so the Canon 350D it will have to be.....damn.....

have you seen pcworlds (yuk hate saying that name!) price for a 300d? under £500 with a lens! they are getting pretty cheap now arent they... admittedly you then have to go and buy a grands worth of lenses!

why is it so many companies look short term... invest some money and get money back! bean counters are to blame is my opinion! we have it at our company.

You can get the 300D for around 400 now....i find it quite big so the 350D is for me. I will not go with the kit lens but the 17-85mm image stabilized lens and a flashgun....then thats it....the M410R has the tele lens when i need it

Who counts jelly beans? :-)

Hi guys ....... The Rollei DK4010 is a re-badged M410R ....... I'm sure I mentioned this before. It would be hard to infer any future developments from this, in terms of Kyoceras plans to close down camera production, or Rollei producing M410R mk II's etc.

(BTW .... Did you see where Rollei have put the flash on the DR 5100 ....not clever! That is just asking for a stray knuckle to block it.)

I assumeKyocera will sell off their camera manufacturing plant to someone .... but then again ..... are most of these parts bought in from elsewhere anyway ....and then just assembled in japan?

There are many possibilities for the future ......and a Zeiss spokesman has said "rest assured that "We are not standing idly by!".

Many rumours have floated around the various forums about Cosina making even more future Zeiss Ikon's and possibly future Contaxes, Zeiss and Sony partnerships broadening out beyond supplying their lenses. But ....they are just that ........ Rumours ..... possibilities. We will just have to wait and see.

Did not get to talk to my contact last night ....so can't add any more to the news.

In one form or another the Contax Connection/Contax Postal Club Newsletter will carry on .......there may just be a short period of disruption! :-)

In terms of servicing ........ I assume provisions will be made ... I will askwhen I get the chance. For example, in the UK the KyoceraCameras are serviced by two external repair specialists that I know about.

In the meantime let's get on with enjoying our cameras and photography.

Cheers, KK.

well said KK... i love the camera.... i think its the best for my needs and the price suited me. it has great features and lots going for it. by the time i come to replace it god knows where the technology will of gone.... and who will be producing it! for all we know panasonic lovers may actually realise there are cameras that work just as well and suit other peoples needs better outside of panasonic! (sorry i was reading an amazinglyone sided argument on DPreview yesterdayhere http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/re...ssage=10781824)

for now i'll carry on loving it and hoping the service will still be there!

Hi Steve,

Really read that thread with interest.

Who are we going to believe when buying a new camera. I read so many good things about the panasonic that you start to believe it.

Its a real shamethat certain reviewers are so biased towards certain brands that it makes you suspect wrongly about reviewers.(I dont think its the case with this site)

Poor us customers that dont have the chance to play around with a cam before deciding. I personally could compare the m410r with Oly765 and I personally felt the M410r was a better cam but I was really tempted to buy the Panasonic from abroad as the local agent only gets them on order.. It would have bean a real let down besides the price was 50% higher.

Bye
