I have an SL400R which within 6 weeks of purchase, last year, started to develop this problem..........

When switching the camera on in taking mode (red) it goes through the initial screen and then displays the settings you last used momentarily before switching itself off.

It will go into play(display) mode or set-up screen happily.

I have made sure the card is ok the battery is fully charged etc. The camera went in for repair under warranty and worked on return but has now stopped again.

Any hints, insights, suggestionsetc most welcome thanks.

I have been having a problem withmy son's one a well. I got it for a Christmas present. It would start up and go to the start up screen and freeze, or sometime work for a shot or two and then freeze. I would have to take the battery out to get it to turn off.

The battery was fine as I checked with another Sl400R. I tried external power packs as well. In the end I tried quite a few different SD cards and lo and behold it is working at the moment and long may it do so.

Mine's back today!
Let's see how long it lasts.
It was very warm when I used it earlier and the battery life was very short.

Still going but you may be interested with the following.....

When the camera fires up now it is a bit slower and the screen brightness starts low but then kicks in. I wonder whether the whole loadon the battery was just too much!

I am also trying to find out whether certain SD cards aggravate matters.

I have been using Sandisk Ultras.

I have exactly same problem.

On the top of that I have noticed that the flash doesn't work in the moment when I can still take pictures.

Does your flash work?

I am thinkink maybe the camera is waiting for the flash to be ready and it never happens, thus the red LEDflashing forever.

Sorry, yes my flash appears to be working.
I am not actively using the camera at the moment but keeping an eye on battery life and trying it each weekend.
