This is an aerial view of an iceberg. You can see part of it underwater and some small bits that have broken off. The white of the berg against the black of the water provided a neat contrast.

I really like the view. It is interesting how much of the iceberg you can see below the water line.

What a wonderful shot. How large is this berg? The colors are beautiful. Well done.

Yes it was taken from a helicpoter. We were travelling between islands conducting a falcon survey.

They say that about 90% of the iceberg is underwater. The water is very deep in the channel so I would guess that to be about right. What you can actaully see is probably only a small part of what is underwater because of the shape of the berg and the depth.

The berg is about I would guess 40 meters (130 feet) high and 50 meters wide. This is a medium size one. It was photographed off Nain Labrador. In June we can have hundreds drift by our shores here in Newfoundland, many grounding in the bays. Some companies collect bits of the bergs and make iceberg vodka and also bottle the water.

Hi Joe;
Excellent shot! Great pespective... cold water.:O In my other life I am a school teacher, and I sometimes use the metaphor of guessing at the shape of icebergs to describe what is going on inside someone. We can't always judge by what people are willing to show us... Hmmm.... I think I'm going to use that one tomorrow. Thanks. (may I use your shot? ![]() Regards, Tom, on Point Pelee, Canada |
