I have a bunch of shots from this area. It's a lake created by a lava flow which caused a valley to fill with clear snow runoff. On an overcast day, you can see all the way to the bottom approx 1000 feet below. The water is so cold that the trees are still there. It's also the headwaters of the McKenzie River.

I like the composition and the colors of the lake etc. except for the sky. Perhaps some more knowledgeable members can proide suggestions on how to help with the overexposed sky. Filters perhaps for the next opportunity.

I concur with Selvin's comments regarding the composition. This is one of those scenes that stretches the limits of the tonality range of the digital camera.A graduated ND filter might have aided by toning down the bright skies, but given the tall trees maybe not. The other alternative to capture the entire tonal range would have been to shoot two images, one exposing for the highlights and the other exposing for the shadows then blending the two in Photoshop.

Gorgeous photo esp the foreground of the water.
I can almost imagine the late Robert Mitchum and Marilyn Monroe rafting into the frame after their wild run down The River of No Return. ![]() |

nicely done! beautiful foreground......nicely placed barn
gj the sky problem, could be tweaked in photoshop quite easily just mask the sky inverse the selection, "and use levels or curves to darken it up.... Vito |

I generally avoid all editing except for cropping, but in this case I didn't really like the way the sky came out either, so here's my fix...

ok....you did a fabulous job replacing it....but....i think it would be best, if you just darkened the normal sky...that way the reflection matches...
