We're in Victoria B.C., and our deck faces the Olympic Mountains across the Juan de Fuca Strait. The sky gives us effects that change constantly & I've got into the habit of often checking what this particular bit of the mountains looks like. It's a very narrow view that needs between 8x and 20x zoom.
This was what it looked like a few evenings ago & I shot it because the colors appealed to me. Canon S1IS. The noise was reduced a bit with Neat Image. |

rather hard to tell the mountains from the clouds in this one.
style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #000000"i've been meaning to get back to Victoria for a visit, to see how it's changed... i went to what is now St. Michael's University School back in the 60's before it got all co-ed and preppy... it was more like the old English "public schools". have onlybeen to Victoria once or twice since, and not for at least 20 years... |

After posting the picture I was annoyed to see jpeg artifacts in the sky as well - I wonder if Neat Image is to blame - it compressed the file quite a lot, though the artifacts aren't so obvious when I retrieve the picture from the same file on my hard drive.
I'm now trying a version that hasn't been through Neat Image, & that's in a bigger file to see if it makes any difference.. St. Mikes eh? We live about half a mile away. |

the second image is a bit sharper, perhaps, but it's mainly distance that makes the mountains hard to tell from the clouds.
yeah, back in those days it was just called "University School". Lord, how i dreaded those runs up Mt. Tolmie for rugby conditioning!! from what i've heard, about all that remains of the old school is the main administration building... the rest is all new. i recall Victoria was a pretty nice little town. quiet, somewhat stodgy...but with some terrific parks and gardens. i really need to get back up there with my camera, and maybe take a drive up the Malahat while i'm at it... |
