I saw this sky only just in time & managed to take several pictures of it.

It was only later that I saw that one of them included the yellow street light.

I can't make my mind up whether it helps the picture or not. What do you think?

Personally, I think it's better without.

i agree. it's an unnecessary distraction that doesn't add anything to the image.

I agree as well. It's better without. I'd also tone down the sharpening.

This is interesting. I posted the picture in another forum and the weight of opinion there is very much against the light too.

On the other hand a couple of people suggested that if the entire lamppost could be seen, it might add depth. So I looked through the other pictures - and there was one showing the complete lamp post. The picture needed to be leveled (I can never hold a camera level) and I added some contrast & did a bit more fiddling. Here's the result.

Sorry still too distracting IMO. The general rule is you don't want anything at the edge of picture that draws your attention towards it. Maybe if the lamppost was a third of the way in (rule of thirds composition) it would be OK, but it's too distracting where it is for me.

The problem with the editing IMO is the noise that appears all around the lamp post. It almost looks like the lamp post was never there. Otherwise, it's an interesting shot.

deffo better without the lamp post from whereu are stood as u look towards it away from the picture

I feared the noise might be noticed. Maybe it's what comes of staying faithful to a camera with only 2.1 megapixels - my good old Olympus C2100UZ.....

I tried to remove the noise with Neat Image, but it overdid it so much that it ruined the picture as a whole. Maybe I should have been more painstaking & less in a hurry....

IMHO, I have to disagree with the consensus here. And for one reason. The bird is watching the sky, seemingly as interested as you are! I think it adds more of a story to the picture. More character. It might take away from the image visually, but it adds interest. And to me it adds more than it detracts.

Take my opinion FWIW. I look at things differently.
