Default Draught along Po River

It's a dry spell in Italy.
Po river water level has sunk of about 7 meters.
This BW shot I took today emphasizes the situation.

Waiting for your comments.

Question :
Automatic exposition has set f13,9 and 1/176.
However elements in the distance seem to be out of focus.
Actually focus was set in the middle of the shot.
How could I have clear elements in the distance leaving the dry clay clear as well ?
I have heard that hyperfocal distance is used to have all elements clear.
How does it work ? Where should I have put the focus in order to make it work for this situation ?
Any help is welcome.
