Fall in Central Park

Weve had nothing but clear blue skies for nearly the whole week. While that may be a boon to some, it wasnt really for me. Ive grown fond of clouds and find cloudless skies kind of dull.

So when I saw clouds this morning, I immediately went to Central Park. Fall color is also in full swing so it was the perfect time to do photography.

You might say I'm obsessed with clouds. After all, when I look up and see clear blue skies, I sigh and don't bother pulling out my camera.

But if so I am not alone. At Central Park this morning, as if the clouds drew photographers out from everywhere, everyone joggers, pet owners, and photography enthusiasts -- was out taking pictures.

Lovely shots. Looks like crews did a quick job of cleaning up after the recent storm.

Perfect place to find photo ops. Love the colors here.

Striking shots...! Were these HDR...? :)

Thank you, Walter, Kevin, simon40.

Walter, you're right. There were actually crews -- some right behind me -- sawing off large portions of tree branches. It looked sad seeing I'd say dozens of big stumps off the side of trees. But I guess safety is more important than looks especially after the last snowstorm we had.

Kevin, I used to always take pictures of the bridge from the other side -- the "front" side. It's more convenient there because of the paved path. I've been on top of the bridge before and looking down on the other side -- the "far" side -- seeing the shallow pool and a fence of solid bars of steel that turned it into a dead-end corner I thought, eh, what an ugly view. So I never took pictures from there.

Then I saw a picture online taken from the far side and so I went. I was immediately struck by the nice view. What's also nice is that no one goes there perhaps because there's not path and apparently because of the same impression I got when I was on top of the bridge its ugly.

I guess thats one duh lesson in photography you cant judge a scene by standing in it.

simon40, yes its HDR. But Id say the moods are more a result of Topaz Adjust. I used Dynamic Photo HDR to even out the highs and lows then let Adjust take care of the colors and textures.

Enjoyed your series and the tour of Central Park, thanks vv.

Thank you, banksy.

Yesterday was another cloudy morning (the even lighting makes for perfect picture-taking) so I went back to Central Park, this time, instead of on the 59th Street end where the bridge is and all the tourists are, farther up north on 71st Street where major landscape attractions can be found, too.

#12) A typical Central Park scene. Central Park is big -- not the biggest city park in the world but easily among the top ten. Spots like this where you can find peace and relaxation are the norm rather than the exception in Central Park.
