Recently paid a visit to a small town on the island of Hawaii (Big island) named Honomu and the nearby Akaka Falls.
The first shot of the Akaka Falls which drops about 400 feet shows the full drop. ![]() The second shows details at the base when the water reaches the bottom, ![]() also visited a old antique bottle shop and found the play of light on the old bottles interesting. ![]() ![]() Comments are very welcome. |

I really like the one with the blue bottles...
It's too bad the car is in the background... |

The falls pics are about a stop over exposed. Nothing that can't be corrected in PS, I'm sure.
And in that first falls pic if you had taken another couple steps up you could have de-emphasized the ground. You probably also could have caught the water in free fall as you fell with it. ![]() The first bottle pic is really cool, as you said, with the interplay of light and glass. Honestly, I think more context would have been interesting as well. It's a shame about that car in the background. I'm still wishing to get back to the islands one of these years. It's been too long that I've been away. |

A 400 foot waterfull. Humbling.
Selvin, have you heard about anyone jumping from the top of this waterfall? I wouldn't imagine it could be done but I wonder if anyone has made the attempt. |

Melanie, Lauren,
I noticed the car in the background too late. I guess I could clone it out but then again, revisiting the town is better. Lauren I actually do have more background however it was mainly the walls of the store. Lauren, Yes, there is a companion shot with a slighter smaller f-stop and you're correct I have this thing about falling down 400-foot waterfalls. Shot was taken right at the edge of the lookout area. Hope you do make it back to the islands. Joshua, No, haven't heard about anyone leaping over the edge. I suspect the bottom is not conducive to that. Thanks for the comments. |
